“Costa’s ‘mind stripped bare’ understands the contemporary self as an ever-healing, ever-searching, never finished ‘half-human creature thing.’”
—A.F. Moritz, Former Toronto Poet Laureate
Paul Edward Costa’s Some Half-Human Creature Thing is a fearless exploration of the fractured self. With striking psychological honesty, Costa’s poetry navigates fear, absurdity, and wonder, shifting between intimate reflections and surreal landscapes. From existential dread to unexpected beauty, this collection pulses with dark humour, sharp insight, and a restless search for meaning. Prepare to be unsettled, intrigued, and ultimately transformed by Costa’s evocative vision.
“Costa’s is a world where hauling existential dread is an athletic event; where unexpected beauty—such as that of satellite dishes, which are nothing less than steampunk sunflowers—will save us; and where a single punctuation mark can make all the difference in how we relate to ourselves.”
—Richard-Yves Sitoski, Former Owen Sound Poet Laureate
