“Steven Silva’s writing explores the intersection of identity, migration, and belonging with insight and depth. Drawing on a diverse set of cultural references, he invites readers to consider and embrace the complexities of layered, bicultural identities.”

— Maria João Maciel Jorge, Associate Professor & Associate Dean, York University

From the sun-drenched shores of Madeira to the evolving landscapes of Ontario, Flight Path Home: Stories of Family, Migration, and Belonging introduces a vital new voice in Portuguese-Canadian writing. Personal yet expansive, this collection reveals how intimate family histories echo broader, universal stories of resettlement, resilience, and change.

In this deeply moving memoir in essays, Steven M. Silva follows the paths taken by those who came before him, asking how ancestral stories continue to shape the present. With precision and emotional depth, these essays explore the enduring imprint of migration on identity and memory. Silva writes with quiet intensity about inheritance and loss, about lives lived between cultures, and about the persistent search for home.
